Proofreading

Proofreading is not editing. A professional proofreader will not make any changes to your text, but will highlight errors and oversights such as punctuation, grammar and spelling with a highlighter, making suggested corrections above the text. This marked up text will be returned to you so you, as the author, can make the final decisions on any changes.

Sometimes, particularly in dialogue, spelling, punctuation and grammar are intentionally altered to represent the voice of a particular character. This is one of the many reasons that a proofreader does not make changes. This process is traditionally the last shakedown after all the other editing processes have been done. If you need copy editing, see that section

All proofreading jobs will be quoted individually, based upon length, subject and an initial review of the manuscript or webpage. If I have provided you with copyediting for your project, you may be entitled to a discount for proofreading services.
